KuLith (Horsegram) Dosa

Updated: Apr 5, 2022

This dosa is very easy to make, and tastes wonderful. This dosa batter can be used immediately after grinding, or it can even be fermented and used. In my native language Konkani, this legume is called KuLith.

Horse gram is a very rich in protein, and get its English name from its use as a staple food for horses and cattle. That is why race horses are fed with this gram, which is called horse gram in the market. This legume is known to be diabetic friendly, and full of antioxidants, and is also high in iron, calcium, and protein.

This is another Protein dosa and the best part is that it does not need to be fermented. It is very tasty and keeps one full and satiated for a long time. This dosa can be cooked thick like a set dosa or made thin and crispy. Do try it out, I am sure you will love it just as much as my family does.

KuLith Dosa

Ingredients:

• 1 cup KuLith

• 1/2 cup rice

• 1//4 cup urad dhal

• 1/2 - 3/4 cup Poha (beaten rice)

• 1/4 cup oats (optional)

• Salt to taste

Steps:

  1. Soak the kuLith, urad dhal and rice in water for a few hours, or even overnight.

  2. Next soak the poha (beaten rice) just before you grind the kuLith, urad and rice.

  3. Next add in the poha and the oats (optional) and grind till smooth and fine. I have made it with and without oats and it tastes good either way.

  4. Add the salt to taste. Now the batter is all ready.

  5. Heat up the griddle and spread a ladle full of batter to make a dosa.

  6. Cook/roast till nicely roasted on both sides.

  7. Yummy dosa is all ready to eat. serve with your favorite accompaniments.

Notes:

For a variation and an extra crispy dosa, I replace the poha with kurmura (puffed rice). The batter can also be fermented and used as well.

I serve this dosa with chutney, or with chutney powder (poDi) and some oil or ghee.
