Jackfruit Buns

Updated: Jul 17, 2020

Jackfruit Buns, I heard about these from a couple of people (my sister in law and a dear friend) and decided to try and make it. I didn’t have any recipe, so I decided to improvise.  The recipe I used is the same as the regular banana buns except, I used jackfruit pulp instead of banana.

Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ground phoNos (jackfruit)paste

  • 1 cup of yoghurt

  • 1 tsp of baking soda

  • l/2 tsp of salt

  • 2 - 3 tbsps sugar (you can use more or less as per your taste)

  • 2 cups of all purpose flour (maida)

  • (I might have added 1/3 to 1/2 cup more)

  • cardamom pd ( optional)

  • pepper pd optional

Steps:

  • Mix the jackfruit paste, yoghurt, baking soda, salt and sugar to taste in a bowl.

  • Add 2 cups flour and mix well. Add the extra flour only if needed.

  • Add in the cardamom and /or pepper powder too

  • Add the sugar as per your taste.

  • Mix and knead well and keep overnight.

  • In the morning, roll them out and fry the buns. They were gone in a jiffy!

Notes:

Other options to make buns - I have substituted whole wheat flour (either the entire quantity or half) and have also added some Ragi flour while making buns before.

Since this was my first attempt at making these, I decided to go with the authentic, original recipe. I will definitely be playing around with this recipe more in the future.

Hundi ( my hubby) loved it! His review - He said that it was not overpowering, but it was subtle, and had just the right flavor!!

I will surely be making it often.
